Chapter 418: The Heaven Extinguisher, Last Time
The Prime Architect Jiyx stood amidst the battlefield, positioned atop something that could not be seen.Yet whose presence subtly distorted the surrounding space, or rather what that place was called with such a messed concept of space.
Beneath him lay his newest creation.
A Sentinel.
Even in its concealed state, it exuded a vastness that was difficult to comprehend, as if an entire structure had been folded into invisibility.
It would not have been an exaggeration to say that it rivaled worlds in scale, yet moved with the precision of a living mind.
Jiyx’s triangular head rotated slowly as he observed the battlefield, processing countless battles at once.
His attention shifted across layers of combat, measuring energy outputs and the interaction of forces that ordinary beings could not even perceive.
Eventually, he found what he was looking for.
A point of maximum disruption.
A moment where intervention would ripple across every layer of the war, and also a place where his creation would get the maximum attention.
Without hesitation, his square body dissolved and merged into the Sentinel, taking full control of the construct.
The machine awakened.
This was the Heaven Extinguisher.
Two immense glowing orbs appeared high above in the dim, fractured sky.
They did not simply emit light, they distorted the surrounding space, pulling everything subtly inward as vortex-like currents began forming across the battlefield.
Jiyx’s voice resonated across the chaos, amplified through the Sentinel.
"Listen carefully, you otherworld beings. I had originally planned to unveil this masterpiece later, but since time waits for none, I suppose I will finally have real fun."
The battlefield reacted instantly.
Even in the midst of destruction, attention shifted.
Segments of the Sentinel detached themselves and shot outward in precise trajectories, embedding into lesser abominations across vast distances.
Each fragment latched on like a parasite, beginning unknown processes within the enemy bodies.
After what fate was worse for a parasite than being parasited itself.
Reactions followed immediately.
"Now what exactly is that fellow trying to accomplish at this stage of the battle? Does he intend to disrupt both sides indiscriminately?"
"Damn it, I was moments away from finishing my opponent, and now the entire flow of my attack has been ruined!"
"Fuck! That interference nearly got me killed!"
The battlefield grew increasingly unstable.
What Jiyx had done was not a simple attack.
He had interfered with the structure of the war itself.
This war existed on multiple layers.
Three distinct ones.
The first layer was where high-level combatants engaged with restraint, testing each other while conserving strength.
The second layer was where supreme beings fought without limitation, their clashes tearing apart space, time, and even conceptual frameworks, like the Jade Emperor.
The third layer, hidden from most, was where commander-level entities observed and controlled the flow of battle.
If those commanders engaged directly too early, the balance of the war would collapse, potentially leading to catastrophic and irreversible outcomes that both sides would not want.
For this reason, many of the strongest figures had deliberately held back.
They were not inactive.
They were waiting.
Maintaining equilibrium.
Preventing premature escalation.
But Jiyx.
Had just forced a change.
Far beyond the visible battlefield, in a region untouched by the direct clashes.
A figure sat upon a Black Throne.
Before it stood a woman with six fingers on each hand, her posture respectful but steady.
"Prime Architect Jiyx has initiated large-scale interference across multiple layers of the battlefield," she reported.
"Given the nature of this construct and the speed at which it is adapting, how would you like us to proceed?"
The figure remained silent for a moment, as if observing something beyond immediate perception.
Then it spoke.
"Unlike the previous wars, their current actions indicate a clear intent to achieve victory rather than simply prolong the conflict. In earlier cycles, even when they fought fiercely, there was always a degree of restraint, an unspoken boundary they did not cross."
The voice carried a tone of quiet analysis.
"There have always been unwritten rules governing this battlefield. We provoked them deliberately, maintaining pressure while ensuring that the conflict remained within certain limits. Our true objective was never these beings themselves, but rather the passage of time and what it would eventually bring."
A pause followed.
"However, something has changed. Their behavior suggests that they have either discovered a new variable or gained access to something that has altered their expectations. Hope, perhaps... or something even more dangerous."
The figure’s gaze shifted slightly, focusing on the unfolding effects of Jiyx’s Sentinel.
"That construct is not merely a weapon. It is a declaration of intent. If left unchecked, it will continue to destabilize the structure of the battlefield and force further escalation."
The atmosphere grew heavier.
"I would prefer that we are not bound by the Dao once again, as such constraints would severely limit our response. Additionally, the Priestess must remain alive. She is not only a critical link but also a symbol of hope for us."
The woman bowed her head slightly, acknowledging the importance of those words.
The figure continued, its tone becoming firmer.
"Inform all units to prepare for the possibility of true death. If they have chosen to abandon restraint, then we must respond in equal measure, just like that time."
There was a brief silence, as if the figure was considering one final possibility.
Then it spoke again, this time with absolute certainty.
"This war will not follow the patterns of the previous thirty wars. Adjust all strategies accordingly, because this time, the outcome will not be repeated."
Then, in a tone that allowed no doubt, it declared.
"This will be the last time."
Meanwhile, Jiyx looked horrible.
Or rather.
It was not Jiyx himself, but the Sentinel that had taken on a horrifying transformation.
Its once structured, deliberate form began to twist beyond reason.
Limbs that should not exist emerged and fused, while fragments of previously attached abominations seemed to integrate into its body.
It no longer resembled a construct.
It looked like an amalgamation of countless beings, forcibly unified into a single entity.
The battlefield reacted.
Even those who had witnessed endless horrors felt a faint unease.
Because what stood before them now.
Was not merely a weapon.
It was something that blurred the line between creation and corruption.
More unsettling still.
Even the otherworldly beings, who had long prided themselves on their resilience and near-invincibility, began to feel something they had not experienced in a long time.
Fear.
Not because they were weak.
But because they could recognize it.
The Sentinel was no longer just fighting them.
It was becoming something.
And everyone who had attached themselves to the Sentinel.
Was still alive.
