Chapter 417 - 416: "Your Hand Is So Soft, So Nice to Touch.
Zhou Mochen’s expression tightened. When he thought about where she was getting ready to go, his smile completely vanished.
His girlfriend was going to meet some online friends by herself; it would be a miracle if he wasn’t worried. He was about to say something else, but Xu Su had already finished getting ready and turned to enter the walk-in closet.
It was clear he couldn’t stop her, and trying again would likely just start another fight. Zhou Mochen could only grab her wrist and say resignedly, "Text me when you get there. Keep your phone on, and you have to answer if I call. I’ll worry otherwise, you know?"
Xu Su gave a noncommittal "mhm," closed the door to the walk-in closet, and started picking out an outfit.
When she emerged again, she was wearing an ankle-length chiffon dress. To hide the palm print on her arm, Xu Su had also draped a plain-colored shawl over her shoulders. Her long hair was tied up in a bun. Other than her watch and the Buddha Beads around her neck, she wore no other accessories. Her entire look was simple yet elegant.
She was so beautiful it made you want to hide her away from the world.
Zhou Mochen genuinely had this thought, but he only dared to entertain it for a moment before firmly suppressing it.
He looked down at her. "Remember to call me ahead of time to pick you up when it’s over."
"There’s no need," Xu Su said, picking up a handbag and walking toward the door. "I drove myself. Why would you need to pick me up? It’s not like I don’t know the way home."
’Her attitude is off!’
"What’s wrong?" Zhou Mochen tightened his grip on Xu Su’s wrist. "Are you still angry?"
???
Xu Su was baffled. ’What is he even asking about?’
’So much had happened in the last two days. Was it about the night before last, when he pointed a gun at her and accused her of cheating? Or was it about yesterday afternoon at the construction site, when he finally showed up long after she had fallen into utter despair...’
As far as Xu Su was concerned, every single one of those incidents was reason enough to be angry.
But she didn’t have time to stand here and argue the point with him.
Xu Su glanced at the time and shook his hand off. "We can talk about whatever it is when I get back. I’m running late."
She was tired of always having to guess what he was thinking, and even more tired of their constant fighting. "Zhou Mochen, don’t push me right now. I don’t want to talk about what happened these past two days."
’She didn’t want to ruin her mood for the meetup.’
Her tone carried a solemn warning. The instant the words left her mouth, her wrist was gripped tightly.
A moment later, Zhou Mochen calmly released her hand and didn’t try to stop her again.
He stood at the entrance, watching without blinking as her car sped away into the distance.
「Boting Hotel.」
Xu Su held her new phone, typing a little awkwardly: [What floor, which private room?]
She had logged into QQ on her new phone, so her previous chat history was gone, and she hadn’t made a point of memorizing the name of the private room they’d booked.
The group chat was buzzing with activity, and several people replied at once: [Fifth floor, Lan Yue Platform! Hurry, we’re all waiting for you!]
[Susu, you disappeared all day yesterday and all morning today. We were starting to think you were going to flake on us.]
[Are you here yet? Should I come down and get you?]
[The Sect Leader isn’t here yet either. Are all you VIPs just that busy?]
[I came all the way back from abroad and still made it on time. What’s up with you guys? You’re getting a penalty drink later!]
Xu Su didn’t see any of these messages. She put her phone in her handbag, took the elevator to the fifth floor, and began searching, checking the plaque on each private room’s door.
She finally found a purple, cloud-patterned door plaque with the two words "Lan Yue Platform" written in a flamboyant, cursive script. Just as she was about to take a closer look to confirm, a soft cough sounded from behind her, followed by a clear, magnetic male voice:
"You’re not mistaken. This is the one."
Xu Su turned around. Si Xuan was standing behind her, dressed in black casual wear, just like the first time they met. "Did you just arrive as well?" she asked.
"Something came up unexpectedly, so I’m a bit late." Seeing her look at him, Si Xuan smiled suavely. "I didn’t expect to run into you again. What a coincidence, wouldn’t you say?"
He was young, at that age right on the cusp of manhood. With his handsome brows and bright eyes, he had the kind of good looks that appealed to all generations. His features were exceptionally refined and attractive.
So handsome, in fact, that even Xu Su, who was used to seeing her fair share of attractive men, was struck by his appearance.
Xu Su agreed it was quite the coincidence. Their first meeting had been a fluke, and the second—when he’d found her phone just minutes after she’d lost it—was even more of one. Now, despite being late, she had still managed to run into him. It felt like a coincidence on top of a coincidence.
She was starting to believe in fate. This was the Capital, after all! You could live in the same building for decades and never once cross paths with a neighbor, yet she had run into him three times in a single week!
At three different restaurants, no less!
A line of servers carrying trays of food passed by, and Si Xuan stepped half a pace closer. "Let’s head inside."
Taking advantage of his long reach, he reached around Xu Su from behind and pushed open the door. Inside, a large, round table was already crowded with people. The gender ratio was fairly balanced, with men and women each occupying one half of the table.
Knowing Xu Su was on her way, everyone had been watching the entrance. The moment the door swung open, all eyes shot toward it.
Every single person stared, their eyes wide...
The once-boisterous room fell so silent you could hear a pin drop.
Standing next to Si Xuan, Xu Su waved to the group inside, a smile gracing her lips. "Hi~"
’It was her first time meeting online friends, and she was actually a bit nervous.’
...
The people around the table continued to stare, offering no response.
Si Xuan ignored the others, turning his head to say to Xu Su, "Let’s not just stand here. Let’s go sit down."
"Yes, yes, yes!" A bright, female voice in the crowd suddenly snapped to life. "Susu, sit over here! I saved a seat for you right next to me!"
"By the way, I’m Sika," the girl said, jumping to her feet. She addressed Xu Su, "I have to tell you my real name—it’s Ji Xixi."
She wore light makeup, and her features were bright and striking. Unlike the fresh-faced girl in the photo Xu Su saw when she first joined the group, Sika in person didn’t look like a recent high school graduate at all.
’Just as you’d expect from someone who’s lived in the Lighthouse Country,’ Xu Su thought. Before she could even walk over, Sika was already rushing up to greet her, pulling her into a warm hug without a hint of unfamiliarity. "Susu, you’re gorgeous! Way more beautiful than in your photos!"
She circled Xu Su, looking her up and down, then lamented, "I blame myself for not studying harder in school. I can’t even find a good enough adjective to describe you."
Sika pulled Xu Su into her seat, completely unwilling to let go of her hand. With a playfully lecherous expression, she said, "Your hands are so soft. They feel amazing."
"..." Xu Su looked thoroughly uncomfortable.
But before she could speak, another girl spoke up, "Well, I thought of a line: ’One glance topples a city, a second topples a kingdom.’ What do you guys think?"
The other girls around them immediately agreed.
The corner of Xu Su’s mouth twitched, and she looked completely helpless. "You guys, please stop. That’s way too much of an exaggeration."
Someone else came to Xu Su’s rescue: "Yeah, knock it off, you guys. What are you going to do if you scare Susu and she never comes out with us again?"
Seeing Xu Su look her way, the woman’s lips curved into a smile. "Susu, I’m your Sister Liu Yun. My real name is Liu Yun."
