Chapter 45: Besieged on All Sides
Chapter 45: Besieged on All Sides
Dodo waved his hand, signaling the ragtag army to begin their attack.
The disorganized, ragtag goblin army charged haphazardly toward the city walls.
Thun stood on the city wall, staring at a banner made of animal skin with crossed bones, his eyes gleaming with undisguised ferocity.
That was the tribe that killed his mother, his former tribe, the Two-Headed Bone Tribe.
Thun wished he could rush down and fight those green-skinned bastards to the death.
But he didn't move.
He remembered what Ron had said: "Standing on the city wall, you can kill a hundred; charge down, and you can only kill one, and then you die."
Thun took a deep breath, sheathed his knife, and turned to walk to the Eight-Bull Crossbow.
"let me."
When they were less than 300 meters apart, the four catapults in the territory simultaneously emitted a deafening whooshing sound.
Then a rain of fire fell from the sky, and hundreds of flaming bricks rained down, instantly crushing large swarms of goblins.
When Dodo saw this, his eyes widened instantly.
"What kind of weapon is this?"
Devon was also dumbfounded. After all, during the Battle of Wenger, they had been hiding in the valley for fear of being exposed and had not witnessed the battle of Wenger firsthand.
The black-robed mage also wore a solemn expression.
When the goblins reached two hundred meters, another wave of fire rained down from the sky, felling another large group of goblins.
The two attacks resulted in at least seven or eight hundred goblins being killed.
Thun stared intently at the charging goblin army, manipulating the Eight-Bull Crossbow, ready to deliver a fatal blow to any goblin hero that appeared.
At a distance of fifty meters, the crossbowmen and the knight guard began to fire arrows.
As goblin soldiers fell one after another, suddenly, the tallest goblin hero, wearing simple leather armor, let out a shout and charged towards the city wall with one hand, lifting a siege ladder.
"Found it." Thun's face contorted with rage as he maneuvered the Eight Bulls Crossbow to lock onto the goblin hero.
The goblin hero was very clever; he placed two shields on the siege ladder, perfectly shielding him from the rain of arrows.
Mad crouched behind the battlements, his bone bow fully drawn, arrow aimed at the goblin hero.
The first arrow was blocked by the left shield, the second arrow grazed the right shield, and the third arrow struck the wooden frame of the siege ladder, causing the ladder to shake.
The goblin hero was unharmed and continued charging forward.
call!
Mad subconsciously looked up at the second floor of the watchtower; the sound was coming from up there.
Thun's eyes were glued to the sights, the crosshairs following the goblin hero's movements.
The shield blocked the arrows, but it couldn't block his vision.
"Stay calm," Thun whispered to himself.
The goblin hero charged forward a few more steps, his shield slightly parted as he ran.
Right now.
Thun pulled the trigger.
The crossbow suddenly jolted, and a meter-long bolt tore through the air, passing through the gap before the shield could close.
The shield shattered, and the crossbow bolt pierced the goblin hero's chest, sending him flying and pinning him to the ground.
With just one strike, the goblin's charge was brought to a halt.
Although the goblin army's siege ladders eventually began to approach the city walls.
However, the presence of the city wall changed the situation where enemies were less likely to be attacked once they approached it.
Militiamen on the front wall would pick up bricks the size of human heads and throw them down, or pour boiling water down, and instantly cries of agony would echo throughout the area below the wall.
The defenders on the horse-faced wall quickly drew their bows and shot arrows, killing the goblins below.
The battle was fierce from the start, but the defenders on the city walls gradually became less tense.
Because goblins simply can't get up there.
When the last goblin fell, a deafening cheer erupted from the city walls.
Goblins attacking a city never call it a day; they either get wiped out or the city falls.
As for those who tried to escape, they were all wiped out by the supervisory team from Dodok.
In the first probing attack, nearly two thousand goblins were wiped out.
Dodo looked at Devon fiercely: "How am I supposed to attack walls like this?"
Devon was also very shocked. He had long known that the city walls had a great advantage in defense, but he did not expect the effect to be so significant.
The black-robed mage quickly advised, "Chief Dodok, this probing attack has shown us the strength of Ashwood Territory, but their forces are limited. If we attack from all four sides simultaneously, preventing them from defending themselves, they will eventually have a chance to breach the walls."
"Yes, that's right, Drew, you're absolutely right," Devon quickly echoed, while also urging, "Chief, think about it, once you conquer this city, everything inside will be yours. You'll have such a fortified city; why would you need to fight for territory everywhere?"
Dodo did the math: seven thousand troops, divided among the four city walls, less than two thousand on each side.
The defensive density of Ashwood Territory far exceeded his expectations.
"Go," Dodok said to the wolf riders. "Capture every goblin within a fifty-mile radius who can wield a weapon. Regardless of age, as long as they can fill the city walls."
The wolf riders immediately led a group of men away from the camp.
The high hills far from the battlefield are now occupied.
These people are all from surrounding territories, including Harland and Angus.
Harland stared intently at the four catapults within Ashwood territory.
"With such a long range and power, Ashwood Territory certainly has some good stuff."
Grayson replied with a smile, "The lord was indeed farsighted, buying Ashwood territory so early on."
Harland waved his hand dismissively and said, "I just think highly of Ron. The Ashwood family truly deserves to be the kingdom's most outstanding construction family."
"Grayson, what did you see?"
"The catapult has a range of at least four hundred paces and its accuracy is comparable to the kingdom's siege weapons."
Harland nodded, his gaze shifting to the hill on the other side, where the Angus people stood, led by a middle-aged man in black half-armor, who was also using Eagle Eye to look at Ashwood.
Haaland couldn't see his expression, but he could guess.
"The people of Angus are probably going to have trouble sleeping."
Grayson asked in a low voice, "My lord, should we...?"
"No." Harland turned his horse around. "Ron has won this battle, and the landscape of the Southern Wasteland is about to change. We should stand with the winner."
Ron stood on the top of the highest section of the north wall, his embroidered spring knife stuck in the brickwork in front of him, his hands resting on the hilt, motionless.
From the east wall to the west wall, you can see the figure standing at the highest point simply by turning your head.
Among them, the people brought by Hilden turned their heads the most frequently.
It wasn't fear, it was confirmation—confirmation that the person was still there, hadn't left.
They were abandoned once.
If Old Hall hadn't stopped Ron from going forward, Ron would probably already be standing on the walls of the barbican.
Fanta rushed over to share the good news immediately after their first victory.
"My lord, we defeated the goblin's first wave of attack, causing them to lose at least two or three thousand greenskins. Thun even used his Eight-Bull Crossbow to kill two goblin heroes."
Hearing Fanta's words, Ron frowned and reminded him, "Fanta, don't be careless. They're only attacking one side of our wall. If our forces are scattered, it will be difficult for us to achieve such results."
As soon as he finished speaking, Mad ran over: "My lord, the goblins have split into four groups and have completely surrounded us."
Ron didn't look back at Mad; his gaze swept over the north wall, the east wall, the west wall, and finally landed on the south wall.
"Let Da Vinci lead the team to the south wall. Hilden to the east wall, Mad, you take your men to the west wall, and Thun's Green Squad will move to whichever side is in trouble."
Ron pulled the embroidered spring knife out of the crack in the brick; the blade gleamed in the sunlight.
"Tell everyone that if we're surrounded by enemies, then we'll fight them on all sides."
