Chapter 38 Notes
Chapter 38 Notes
Lin Mo's face lit up with joy.
After so many battles, both cards have finally been upgraded!
He calmed his agitated emotions and walked up to the corpses, wanting to see if any materials had fallen.
To his disappointment, not a single material was extracted from the thirteen corpses.
Shaking his head, Lin Mo immediately decided to make use of these corpses by packaging them into blank cards.
Although it can't compare to naturally fallen material, it's better than nothing.
Just as he was about to silently recite the sealing incantation, he suddenly caught a glimpse of what seemed to be a hole under the torn fabric of the corpse directly in front of him.
Lin Mo lifted the lid and was immediately stunned!
On the chest of this living dead was a gruesome, gaping hole, and its heart was nowhere to be seen.
The wound had clean edges, as if it had been made by a sharp weapon.
Lin Mo's hand froze in mid-air.
He was all too familiar with this scene.
They were exactly the same as the dozen or so corpses he had seen in the cave near Kirigakure during the day.
"Blood Cup Cheka Group".
Lin Mo said subconsciously.
Then, as if remembering something, he suddenly stood up.
He quickly examined the other dozen or so bodies.
They are exactly the same; a piece of their chest area has been forcibly removed.
"No wonder I couldn't sense any spiritual energy from these monsters; they really were made from the dead!"
His expression shifted to one of sudden realization, then his gaze sharpened: "These living dead have no consciousness; someone must be controlling them!"
He suddenly turned around, looking around warily, but found nothing.
Lin Mo refused to believe it and ordered the mountain spirit to search again carefully, but the result was still the same.
The feedback indicated that there were no abnormal fluctuations within a radius of tens of meters.
Lin Mo was silent for a moment, then took out his phone and dialed Lu Yan's number.
The phone rang several times before being answered. Lu Yan's slightly sleepy voice came from the other end: "Lin Mo? What's up?"
"I was just attacked."
The drowsiness on the other end of the phone vanished instantly: "What happened? How are you? Are you hurt?"
"I'm fine, I've dealt with the attacker."
Lin Mo paused, then changed the subject: "But something's not right."
These things that attacked me... are the same as the corpses we saw in the cave earlier today.
His chest cavity had been hollowed out, and his heart was missing.
I suspect it was the work of the Blood Cup Cheka.
There was a full three seconds of silence on the other end of the phone.
Lu Yan's voice suddenly became extremely serious: "I will report to Captain Luo immediately!"
Send me your location, we'll be there in about ten minutes. Please be careful!
The phone hangs up.
Lin Mo sent his location, and seeing the corpses scattered all over the ground, he immediately realized that he was being watched.
Although he didn't know why the Blood Cup Cheka had approached him, there was no point in investigating it now.
The most urgent task is to improve our own strength as soon as possible.
If one's own strength is sufficient, why fear these petty villains?
For some reason, the image of that strange man from before suddenly appeared in his mind.
"Is it him?"
Lin Mo murmured something.
Just as Lin Mo was lost in thought, a black SUV suddenly stopped in front of him.
The car door opened, and Robin jumped out first.
Following closely behind were Lu Yan, Wang Hu, and Jiang Yue.
The four were not wearing the police department's uniforms, indicating that they had assembled and set off immediately after receiving the call.
"Where?"
Robin strode forward, his face grim.
Lin Mo pointed to the pile of limbs on the ground.
Robin crouched down and carefully examined the object using the portable light that Wang Hu handed him.
He opened the chest of a corpse and his brows furrowed sharply when he saw the familiar bloody hole.
Then they examined three or four more bodies, carefully verifying each one.
Finally, he stood up, his face ashen.
"It was indeed the work of the Blood Cup Cheka."
Robin took out a handkerchief from his pocket, wiped his fingers, and said in a deep voice:
"They have a secret technique that allows them to transform recently deceased corpses into a monster called a 'blood corpse'."
These "blood corpses" have no consciousness; they only mechanically execute their master's commands.
Unafraid of pain, without fear, it is the perfect consumable.
However, these do not seem to be the complete form yet.
He paused for a moment, then added, "A true, fully-fledged blood corpse will have its body covered with blood-red patterns."
These should only be semi-finished products, or rather, experimental samples.
"Experimental subject?"
Lin Mo keenly caught the word.
"That's right."
Robin looked up at Lin Mo, his gaze now more serious. "Within the Blood Cup Cheka Order, some evil card masters are obsessed with human modification and life transmutation."
They would experiment on living people or corpses, constantly improving the performance of the blood corpses.
Judging from these unfinished products, a skilled evil card master is using you as a test subject.
Lu Yan's expression immediately changed: "Captain Luo, are you saying that Lin Mo was chosen as a test subject?"
"That's possible."
But that's not necessarily true; it could be randomly selected, or it could be intentional.
Robin said in a deep voice, "Regardless of the reason, what is certain now is that Lin Mo has been targeted by the Blood Cup Cheka Group."
"Isn't Lin Mo in grave danger right now?!"
Lu Yan said with concern.
"It is indeed somewhat dangerous!"
Robin nodded and looked at Lin Mo, saying, "I suggest you find a safe place to lay low for a while."
You can temporarily move to the police station dormitory, or stay in the faculty housing near the college for a while.
There are card makers patrolling over there, so the security is much higher than here.
Lin Mo hesitated for a moment, then said, "I'll go to the city center tomorrow!"
Robin nodded and patted Lin Mo on the shoulder: "Contact us anytime if anything happens."
This is my personal number, it's on 24/7, just call me if you need anything.
He recited a string of numbers, which Lin Mo saved to his phone.
"Alright, we'll take these bodies with us for now."
be safe!"
After Robin finished speaking, he took out a spatial card.
He sucked up all the dismembered corpses on the ground and then got into the car with Lu Yan and the other two.
After watching the SUV drive away, Lin Mo hesitated for a moment, then completely lost his appetite and turned to walk back home.
at the same time,
On the rooftop of an abandoned residential building across from the community, a figure slowly emerged from the shadows.
The man was wearing a dark black hooded robe with the brim pulled low, and his skin appeared an unnatural pale white.
He silently watched everything unfolding before him, a strange smile playing on his lips.
He then pulled a black notebook from his robe pocket, bit his finger, and quickly wrote a few lines:
"Target number five has a cultivation level at the mid-level Black Iron rank."
It possesses two high-quality summon cards, which, based on preliminary assessment, are at least blue or higher.
Its combat power far surpasses that of card makers of the same level, and the cards it possesses are suspected to be source cards.
One of the card spirits excels at long-range output and perception, and possesses wide-area attack skills.
The second Kalinga is a twin guardian type, skilled in cooperative combat and defense, and possesses high damage reduction skills.
"The overall combat strength of the experimental subject is roughly equivalent to that of a Black Iron Five-Star nascent species, approaching 50% of the level of a fully evolved one."
The strength of the existing experimental subjects is insufficient to pose a substantial threat to the target and further improvements are needed.
He stopped writing, glanced back at the previous pages of his notebook, then flipped back to the previous page and added a few lines of information to the notes column for "Target Number Five":
"His spiritual sense is extremely sharp, and his mental strength far surpasses that of other card makers of the same level."
Direct contact is not recommended; follow up remotely first to avoid alerting the enemy.
After writing the last sentence, he closed the notebook and put it back in his pocket.
He disappeared back into the shadows.
