Chapter 52 Part-time Job
Chapter 52 Part-time Job
Amber stood on the steps; her back view was beautiful, yet also lonely.
In a sense, she is now the only remaining elven royalty in the world.
Chu Sheng stared at her for a few seconds and suddenly felt a sense of déjà vu.
What "You go first, I'll cover your retreat," what "Live on for me," what "Carry my will into the future"...
He disliked this kind of "setting a flag" approach; it was too corny and could easily lead to disaster.
"Your Majesty," Chu Sheng suddenly spoke, "how much magic power do you have left?"
Amber's shoulders trembled slightly, but she did not answer.
Arthur stepped forward, sword in hand: "I will stay with Her Majesty the Queen. You may go."
Chu Sheng raised his hand to stop him: "Arthur, how many more strikes can your Holy Light deliver?"
Arthur's ahoge (cowlick) curled up guiltily.
Oh no, we're almost out of mana here too.
The fake Estaque outside had obviously figured it out too. She raised her hand, and the white-dressed elves all took a step forward.
"Your Majesty, Miss Arthur," Estelle said with a smile, "Both of you are admirable, but unfortunately, admiration cannot kill, nor can it replenish mana."
A sudden inspiration flashed through Chu Sheng's mind.
Replenish mana!
shared!
contract!!!
He abruptly turned to look at Arthur, who felt a chill run down his spine from his gaze: "What are you planning now?"
Chu Sheng lowered his voice and spoke rapidly: "Can a squire knight sign contracts with two knights?"
Arthur was stunned, his face showing an expression that said, "I understood every word, but I don't understand how you put them together."
"What did you say?"
"I asked, can a squire knight have two contractual partners?"
Arthur opened his mouth and then closed it again, his ahoge (cowlick) starting to spin wildly.
Chu Sheng could tell at a glance that her brain had crashed; this meant it was "loading".
"The Empire has never had such a precedent before." Arthur finally finished loading and said dryly, "A squire knight can only serve one contract knight in his lifetime. Although it is not an explicit rule, everyone does it this way."
"Can't I not write it?"
"It wasn't written."
"Not writing it out means it's possible!"
"This isn't a question of whether it's feasible!" Arthur exclaimed, his face flushed with anxiety. "What kind of squire knight signs contracts with two partners? What kind of nonsense is this?"
Chu Sheng thought about it seriously for a second: "Part-time?"
"Chu Sheng!"
Arthur was so angry that he almost chopped the bedpost next to him with his sword.
Upon hearing this, Amber's emerald-gold eyes flickered slightly: "You want to sign a contract with me?"
"To be precise, it's you signing with me." Chu Sheng extended his hand. "Just like with Arthur, it's an unfair contract, the sooner the better."
Amber looked at his outstretched hand. She was intelligent and had a long history of experience; she understood Chu Sheng's plan almost instantly.
"You want to convert the holy light Arthur possesses within you into magic through the two contracted lands, and then lend it to me?"
"Huh? Yes, yes." Chu Sheng paused for a moment, then nodded repeatedly. "Arthur has already borrowed it twice, and the user feedback has been pretty good."
He hadn't expected that Arthur and Amber's power sources were different; he simply treated the holy light within him like a roadside power bank.
Arthur blushed and said, "Who gave good feedback!"
Chu Sheng pretended not to see it and continued, "Your Majesty, you are currently lacking in magic power. I can replenish it for you through a contract."
Amber's gaze fell on Arthur, her tone gentle, carrying a subtle hint of meaning: "Does Miss Arthur agree?"
Arthur replied sternly, "What does this have to do with whether I agree or not?"
"He is your squire," Amber said calmly. "If I were to also sign a contract with him, wouldn't that be considered stealing from you, according to human terms?"
Arthur's ahoge (cowlick) stood on end: "He's a piece of trash!"
The group exchanged bewildered glances; something about this statement just didn't make sense.
Arthur stared at Amber: "Your Majesty, this is not the time for jokes."
"I'm not joking." Amber's gaze was calm. "A contract means shared power, and it also means trust. If Miss Arthur minds, I can choose not to sign."
Estelle's voice drifted in from outside: "Your Majesty, my patience is limited. Make a decision as soon as possible."
Chu Sheng was frantic: "Gentlemen, those hordes of monsters outside are about to surround us!"
Silver Leaf nodded vigorously: "That's right! Can't you humans and elves argue about your romantic entanglements tomorrow!"
Arthur took a deep breath, his chest heaving, and finally gritted his teeth and said, "Sign!"
Chu Sheng had just breathed a sigh of relief when he heard Arthur add, "But this is only a tactical necessity."
"Of course." Amber smiled slightly.
"No strange oaths are allowed."
I will try my best.
Amber walked up to Chu Sheng, looked down at him, and her emerald-gold eyes were exceptionally bright.
"The Elven race has no squire knights," Amber said gently. "I can only enter into a subservient pact with you in the name of the monarchy and the sacred tree."
Chu Sheng nodded: "Okay, the title doesn't matter, as long as it can replenish mana."
"The subservience contract is no joke." Amber raised her hand, her cool fingertips gently touching Chu Sheng's forehead. "You will become my servant, sharing my authority and bearing my summons under the witness of the sacred tree."
Chu Sheng's heart skipped a beat. To accept the summons? That sounded like a negative effect.
But [a contract does not equal my agreement], so it's not a big problem.
Amber closed her eyes and lowered her voice.
"The sacred tree is above, and the Moon Spring is our witness."
The moment she spoke, all the trees in the Queen's palace glowed with a pale green light. The points of light, like countless fireflies, slowly converged between her and Chu Sheng.
The white-dressed fairies outside seemed to have sensed something and suddenly quickened their pace.
The tree wall cracked with a loud popping sound. Arthur, not wanting to watch any longer, vented his anger and inexplicable jealousy on the elves, slashing his sword horizontally and blasting away the first row of white-skirted elves who rushed up the steps.
"hurry up!"
Amber didn't open her eyes, and her speech remained slow and deliberate.
"I, Ambermind, King of the Sacred Tree Forest, Watcher of Moonspring, Witness of the Old Covenant of the Gray Realm, hereby enter into a subservient pact with Chu Sheng."
The Gray Zone Old Testament?
The silver leaf's pointed ears stood up.
Amber continued reading, "I allow him to borrow my authority to summon the forest, cleanse the Moon Spring, and walk upon the roots of the sacred tree of the continent."
The green light grew brighter and brighter, and Chu Sheng felt a surge of heat on the spot on his forehead where she had touched him. The warmth flowed down his forehead and straight to his heart.
The strategy guide in his chest began to heat up!
There is a play!
Amber opened her eyes: "You have to respond to me too."
"What should I say?"
"Say you are willing to become my servant."
Chu Sheng blurted out, "I, Chu Sheng, am willing to become Amber's follower. From now on, I'll do what you need, I'll do what you ask for, and I'll take over if you can't stand it."
Amber smiled slightly: "Do you really have to resort to witty banter at such a sacred moment?"
Chu Sheng immediately realized that An Bowen was a reclusive master who had lived for an unknown amount of time, and she would definitely understand this little trick immediately.
Feeling somewhat embarrassed, he immediately changed his mind: "I am willing to become your servant."
Amber leaned down and whispered in his ear, "It's too late. The Sacred Tree is listening. You have to keep your word."
Chu Sheng shivered for some reason, as if he were hallucinating a future where he would be drained dry and reduced to skin and bones.
Amber suddenly reached out and gently grasped Chu Sheng's hand. It was cool to the touch, yet very soft.
Arthur swung his sword even more fiercely.
Amber looked at Chu Sheng, squatted down slightly, pressed her forehead against his, and whispered, "The contract is established."
