Chapter 2241: Contract (1)
Chapter 2241: Contract (1)
"Man, I hate that guy."
Ikki’s party members had awkward looks on their faces.
It was one thing for them to agree with some things that Ikki said, but when Ikki directly said that he hated a fellow hero, it wasn’t something that they could agree with.
After all, they didn’t have the same status as Ikki.
In the end, they were just the companions of a hero that had been assigned to follow Ikki.
They worked well together, which was why they had never been separated, but that didn’t make them a hero in the end. Without being a hero, they just couldn’t act the same way that a hero did.
Heroes had a special status for a reason.
Ikki knew that this was the case, so he didn’t say anything since he didn’t want to make things harder for his party members. But it really was hard for him to hold back his feelings towards Percival.
No matter how he looked at it, Percival really acted too fake for his tastes.
It really seemed like Percival had something to prove with how he acted, which was what Ikki hated the most.
In the end, Ikki tossed that thought out of his mind and turned to the healer to ask, "How’s it going with the compass?"
The healer just shook his head to show that he wasn’t getting anything at all.
The compass that Ikki referred to was a special tool that was embedded with a Holy Stone in the center.
This Holy Stone was something that had been filled with holy magic, so it was very sensitive to the Black Tide. With this, they were able to create a sensor that was able to find any traces of Black Tide out there.
As long as it was there, the Holy Stone would react.
But since the Holy Stone gave no reaction at all, it meant that there weren’t any traces of the Black Tide here.
"Are we sure that the prophecy is even correct?"
Once again, his party members revealed awkward expressions.
This was one of the reasons why Ikki had never been able to rank higher than he currently was.
There was no problem when it came to his power, it was just that when it came to his faith...
In the past, that wouldn’t have been a problem.
In fact, it would have been better for a hero to have less faith since they didn’t want heroes to be controlled by god.
But as time passed and the more that people benefitted from having a god help them, the more faith that they had in god. Which was why the Heroes Association was a place where people actually worshipped god.
So for Ikki to be a hero with little faith...
Ikki could say this, but it wasn’t as if the rest of his party could agree without suffering consequences.
Once again, Ikki didn’t mind since he was just venting his feelings.
As they were searching though, they soon found something that they didn’t expect.
"What are you doing out here?"
As soon as they found this kid, Ikki and his group immediately came forward to protect them. After all, this was a place that the Black Tide had just hit and this kid was out in the middle of nowhere by himself.
The kid was surprised to see people suddenly appearing, but it didn’t take long for him to recognize this group.
"You’re the hero that saved us yesterday!"
Ikki couldn’t stop the smile from appearing on his face when he heard this.
It was always good to be recognized, but it turned out that it wasn’t a good thing in this case.
"Please help me find my friend."
"Your friend?" Ikki was surprised to hear this before asking with a frown, "You mean that there’s someone out here?"
The kid gave a firm nod before saying, "My friend came out before the Black Tide came and he hasn’t come back."
Ikki knitted his brows even more when he heard this since he knew what this meant.
It was the same for the rest of his party.
None of them were confused about what it meant to be stuck outside when there was Black Tide present.
What had most likely happened was that kid was caught up in the Black Tide and was killed by it. After all, those that were swallowed by the Black Tide would either be turned into the black ooze or become one of the monsters released by the Black Tide.
As a hero party, they had seen this happen more times than they could count.
So this was something that they were certain of.
After a long silence, Ikki said with a sigh, "Where do you think he would have gone? We’ll go take a look for you."
"Our hideout, there’s no doubt that he would have gone to the hideout."
Ikki gave a nod before asking, "Then tell us where the hideout is and we’ll go look for it."
The kid revealed an awkward look before saying, "Only we know how to get there, we can’t tell anyone at all..."
After another pause, Ikki said, "Alright, just take us there and we’ll see if we can find your friend."
But after that, he added in a serious voice, "However, you won’t be able to come in with us since it’ll be dangerous. You’ll have to stay outside."
This time, the kid didn’t argue with Ikki.
Behind him, his party members looked at him with a doubtful look.
However, Ikki just said, "There’s no telling what is in this place. At least he’ll be safer with us than wandering around on his own."
When he said this, they had to agree with him.
There was no telling if there were traces of the Black Tide left in this area, so it was better for the kid to be with them than wandering around until he found those traces.
"Beep."
"It reacted to something?"
At that sound, Ikki’s group immediately prepared for a fight.
