Chapter 24 Test
Chapter 24 Test
The sky gradually brightened.
Apprentices kept returning to the camp, but Geralt almost always carried them back.
Paul, for example, had his entire right leg covered in blood, and his face was as white as a sheet of paper, even though he was already quite pale.
Ms. Veris was treating the injured apprentices, and Brad, who had already woken up, was helping to attend to them.
The apprentices' painful groans echoed through the air, which annoyed Alwin, who fiddled with the campfire in front of him.
Vesemir returned to the camp, followed by two boys.
Both men were injured, but they were excited, waving their hands and recounting the battle they had just fought.
"Master Vesemir, you've really missed a good show! Those water ghosts were slaughtered by me!"
"And Winston, I'm the one who found him, otherwise..."
Vesemir raised his hand to interrupt him, "My good boy, you did a good job this time. It seems you remembered what I said last time."
"Now, your priority is to get some rest. I'm going to check on Paul and the others."
Upon hearing this, both of them fell silent.
They heard the wails from the camp; they recognized the sounds.
Suddenly, one of the green cat eyes noticed the black-haired boy sitting by the campfire.
He nudged the person next to him with his elbow, and the two of them walked over together.
Alwin heard footsteps, looked up, and saw Aiken and Winston.
Aiken tugged at the blanket covering Alwin and said in an extremely exaggerated tone.
"Alvin, you didn't even make it to dawn? Haha..."
He glanced at Winston beside him, intending to drag him along to mock Alwin, as this was a rare opportunity.
But in the blink of an eye, he noticed that the other person had already sat down and was drooling over the meat soup in the stove.
Aiken smirked. "You glutton!"
He then showed Arwen the blue, blood-stained bracelet around his waist.
"Arwen, look at these, they're all my spoils."
Alwin raised an eyebrow. The string of ears was made from water ghost ears, and after a quick count, there were eight or nine of them.
"Pretty impressive, right? I won this time!"
Aiken puffed out his chest, as if waiting for Arwen's compliments as the victor.
The latter glanced at him, then silently took his head out from the side and placed it in front of him.
Aiken glanced at it and saw a water ghost's head?
The mocking words were about to come out when Winston's surprised voice was heard.
"Huh, why does this water ghost's head look different from ours? And why are its fins red?"
"Wait, Aiken, look! This isn't a water ghost, it's the head of a drowned undead!"
"Arwen, you killed a drowning undead? My God!"
Drowned spirits?
Aiken's cat-like eyes widened as the introduction to "Monster Chronicles" flashed through his mind, and he froze on the spot.
……
Sunset.
The autumn wind is bleak, and the forest ripples.
Vesemir led the group back to Kaer Mohen, where they quickly ate dinner.
Inside the apprentices' quarters, the usual playful fighting was gone. The six apprentices were already in bed, and Geralt had changed their blankets and slept in the next room.
Alwin smelled the strong odor of disinfectant in the air and heard the constant low growls of pain in his ears, yet he closed his heavy eyelids.
For the next five days, Vesemir did not arrange any training or study for them. Ms. Veris left behind a parchment book and also went on a long trip.
Even though the injured apprentices were wrapped in bandages, they were unwilling to lie idly in bed.
At Paul's suggestion, they explored the dilapidated walls of Kael'thas, saw the names of seven fallen witchers carved on the walls, provoked the lizards hiding in the crevices with wooden swords, and then caught them with large glass jars.
Or they might encourage Arwin and Aiken to challenge the hornet's nest in the tree, only to be chased around by the hornets until Vesemir intervened and used the Igni sign to extinguish the swarm's attack, finally bringing them to a stop.
Vesemir scrutinized the group, whose heads were covered in wasp stings, with his cat-like eyes. He paused to think for a moment, then smiled and gave them a few words of advice before letting the matter drop.
"Arwen, let's go back to the apprentices' quarters. The great battle between the 'Chiropterans' and the 'Petrified Lizards' is about to begin today."
Paul said excitedly.
These "chiropteran" and "petrified lizard" are two male lizards they caught in the past few days, and their final battle will take place this afternoon. Even Vesemir and Geralt have been invited to watch.
Alwin smiled knowingly. He really wanted to go, but he still said, "According to the letter, Ms. Veris will return to Kaer Morhen today. I have to go see her first."
Paul looked utterly disappointed. "My good brother," he said, "I'd say don't go this time. What's the point of learning alchemy?"
Arwin shook his head. "Master Vesemir said that what you promise someone, you must do..."
"Stop, stop, stop!"
"I know, damn it, I've already heard Vesemir's lecture today. Have mercy, if you don't want to hear it anymore, go now."
After saying that, Paul walked towards Aiken and the others, leaning on his cane.
Aiken seemed to notice Alwin's gaze, and his green cat eyes immediately looked away.
The drowned undead incident was a huge blow to him, and he has been deliberately avoiding Alwin lately.
Arwin shrugged, turned and entered Kaer Morhen Hall, going up to the second floor.
Standing at the door of Ms. Veris's room, Alwin first tidied his appearance before knocking on the wooden door.
"Come in."
Alwin pushed open the door and entered. Ms. Veris was sitting on a wooden chair, her shoulders covered in dust, clearly having just returned. Even her tone was full of weariness.
Her eyes swept over and she saw it was Alwin. She paused slightly, as if she hadn't expected him to appear at this time.
"Ms. Veris, what's wrong? Is there anything I can do for you?"
Veris silently took out a white cloth and dusted it off his shoulders. "It's nothing, Alwin, thank you for your concern. It's just that a red-haired brat caused some trouble and set the house on fire with magic, so I went back to deal with it."
"How have you been these past few days? I heard you've been having a good time with your apprentices?"
Alwin recounted the interesting events that had occurred over the past few days, and Veris's gaze softened.
The atmosphere between the two became much more relaxed.
"Ms. Veris, following the [Basic Meditation] you gave me, I have sensed the elements."
Veris sat up straight from his relaxed posture, his voice filled with surprise.
"What did you say? You sensed it?"
Alwin nodded.
"Come here, come to my side."
Having received a definite answer, Veris quickly took a crystal magic ball from the drawer.
"Place your hand on the crystal ball."
Alwin did as he was told, placing his palm on the surface of the crystal ball.
Veris raised her hand, and a calm incantation flowed from her lips.
Ripples spread across the surface of the crystal ball, and Alwin felt a stinging sensation in his palm, as if he were being pricked by fine needles.
At the center of the transparent crystal glass, light blue specks of light began to condense, gathering together to form an irregular sphere the size of a grain of rice.
Looking at the result, Veris murmured unconsciously.
"This mental perception is a real pity. You should be a magic apprentice, not a witcher."
