Chapter 38 A Staggering Spoils of Money Falling from the Sky
Chapter 38 A Staggering Spoils of Money Falling from the Sky
And so it is, and so it is.
The two stared at each other, then smiled.
"Hey, what are you dawdling for? Hurry up and throw the dice!" the gamblers shouted impatiently.
"Yeah, hurry up!"
Geb turned around, weighed the dice in his hand, and with his other hand behind his back, secretly manipulated the ether—an invisible wizard's hand quietly formed on the table.
"Everyone, keep a close eye on the dice, don't get confused and misread the numbers!" the strange uncle said behind Gebu.
He didn't even need to say it; everyone in the room was glued to the pair of heptahedrons in Gebu's hand, their eyes never leaving them for a moment.
"Two o'clock...two o'clock...two o'clock!"
Gebu muttered to himself, his voice growing louder and louder, as if encouraging himself. The gamblers watching began to join in, and within seconds, the entire tavern was filled with rhythmic chants.
"Two o'clock! Two o'clock! Two o'clock!"
Seeing that the atmosphere was quite right, Gebu suddenly threw something forward!
"Get out of here!"
The two dice flew towards the edge of the table!
Snap, snap!
A bright flash! A sharp crack!
Everyone's eyes were dazzled! But they still squinted at the movement of the dice.
The goblin threw the dice very off-center; one of them hit the outer edge of the table's protrusion, bounced back, and rolled around on the table.
Then it stopped—four points? One point? The die stood on the folded corner of the heptah, maintaining a delicate balance…
Gebu moved his hand behind his back.
The die tilted slightly and fell down!
Four...four...four...is one point!
Everyone in the tavern gasped at the same time; the small space almost became a vacuum!
We're halfway there!
The fat orc maid let out an excited exclamation! The gamblers next to her quickly covered her mouth.
Everyone's heads turned simultaneously to the remaining die that hadn't landed.
The die bounced in the center of the table and flew really high! Dozens of eyes followed the heptah as it traced an arc in the air.
The die landed on the ground with a thud and bounced up again.
The gamblers, as if parted by a prophet, automatically split into two sides, making way for the dice.
Snap, snap!
The dice seemed to have grown legs and bounced towards the tavern entrance!
The crowd surged towards the tavern door like a mudslide. Knees and elbows flew everywhere, and several unlucky souls who hadn't reacted in time were pushed to the ground and trampled into a pulp.
The dice bounced and bounced, flying into the street and hitting the corner of the opposite wall... finally coming to a stop.
The gamblers formed a circle with a radius of one meter around the dice, their heads thronging around. A skinny man with sharp eyes poked his head out like a turtle, squinting at the number facing up on the dice.
"It's one!!!"
As his voice fell, the crowd erupted in cheers! They hugged each other, celebrating wildly as if it were a festival.
"Snake eyes! Snake eyes! Eight times!!!!"
"I posted it!!"
"Money! Money! Go get the money!"
After a few seconds, one of the more level-headed guys finally came to his senses and turned to look at the gambling table in the tavern.
The strange uncle and the goblin had vanished without a trace, leaving only a spinning gold coin on the table and the tavern's back door swaying in the wind.
"Chase!!!!!"
-----------------
In the back alley of the wanderer's market, the goblin and the curly-haired elf ran into two abstract humanoid shapes.
Elves have long legs, goblins are fast. One, slap, slap, slap, one, da ...
Following them was a dark mass of people, their eyes bloodshot, pushing and shoving, hurling profanities in various languages, as if they wanted to tear the two men apart alive.
They chased each other, with a difference of more than twenty steps between them. The alley soon came to an end, and just as the elf and goblin were about to rush out of the alley, they suddenly saw a figure around the corner.
An orc laborer was huffing and puffing as he pulled a cart full of oil canisters. He turned the corner and came in, completely blocking the narrow alley.
The two people didn't have time to brake and were about to crash into the person coming from the road!
"Don't move!"
The elf shouted, and the orc worker instinctively looked up. The strange uncle stepped forward, leaped up, and grabbed the orc's shoulder, performing a vaulting leap over him!
At the same time, the goblin ducked down, bent over, rolled his body into a ball, and made a huge groin run between the orc's legs!
Up and down! The strange uncle stepped on the cart with both feet and kicked over the stack of oil tanks that looked like a pyramid.
The earthenware pot was about to tip over, and Gebu, who was hiding under the cart, just happened to pop his head out.
There's something on my head! Ouch!
With a sixth sense, Geb reflexively used a wizard's hand to push the pot aside.
Clang! Snap! Crash!
The oil tank shattered against one side of the wall, spilling oil all over the wall and the ground.
The strange uncle jumped off the cart, stepped into the oil, slipped, and fell face-first to the ground, the magic pouch he was holding flying away!
Gebu's eyes lit up.
"Mine!" the goblin blurted out, stepping on the strange uncle and slamming his curly head to the ground. Using the elf's head as a stepping stone, Goblin lunged towards the bag.
The goblin's fingers were only half an inch away from the pocket when he suddenly felt a tightness in his ankle and couldn't move his feet!
The goblin lost its balance, lunged forward, and slammed into the oil with a loud thud.
The creepy uncle's face was covered in oil and grime, and his glasses were askew. He gripped the goblin's ankle tightly and said:
"Ha! You little rascal, trying to hoard it all?!"
"hiss!"
Covered in oil stains, Gebu turned his head and breathed on the strange uncle.
Just as the two were locked in a stalemate, the crowd chasing behind them rushed up to the back of the oil truck. The crowd was so dense that it couldn't stop in time and collided with the animal workers and the cart.
Seeing the pursuers closing in, the strange uncle quickly stood up, leaning against the wall.
Taking advantage of the opportunity, Geb broke free of his restraints and ran forward using both hands and feet—the strange uncle, with his longer arms and legs, grabbed the goblin by the neck and pulled him backward.
Gebu was light-footed and slippery, unable to gain any strength. He was thrown backward and crashed into the group of gamblers who were tumbling together.
"Don't let the goblins get away! They're in cahoots!"
Before he could finish speaking, a pair of hands grabbed Gebu's shoulders. Another pair of hands clamped down on his arms.
Holy crap! Get out of here!
Gebu was covered in oil, slippery like an eel. With a twist of his body, he slipped out of the gambler's hand with a "plop".
Upon closer inspection, the strange uncle's clothes disappeared around the corner. Gebu quickly rushed over, jumped out of the alley, and burst onto the main street.
Just as he was about to walk forward, he saw the strange uncle standing in the middle of the street—several gray-robed guards stood in front of him, and a fat orc maidservant was hiding behind them, pointing at him.
"That's him! He's a gambler who cheats people out of money!"
The guards of the Gray Raven Society stared at the elf with ill intent as they slowly approached.
"Well……"
The strange uncle took two steps back, bumping into Geb. He looked down and saw the goblin.
Just as Gebu was about to pretend he didn't know him and turn to leave, the pursuers caught up. These men were covered in grease and had murderous looks on their faces.
Ambushed on all sides... one side is a wall, another is the Gray Raven Society, another is gamblers, and what about the other side?
Gebu turned his head to look at the dark underground river...
That's it, there's nowhere to escape, this is a disaster.
His little mind raced—Wizard's Hand? Fire Arrow? Teleportation? Summon a Familiar?
No magic can save him! Should we resort to begging for mercy?
No way! These people aren't so easily fooled!
The strange uncle looked at the little goblin and smiled.
This person... isn't flustered at all?
Gebu looked at him in surprise.
"Gebu, you pulled off that trick quite well. I admire you."
"ha?"
Gebu suddenly realized, how did this guy know his name? I never said that!
And when he threw the dice just now, didn't he call himself Gebu?
Many questions popped into the goblin's mind—but there were more important things to do now!
The gray raven guards and the gamblers began to close in from both sides.
The strange uncle gripped the magic pouch tightly and winked at Geb.
"Hey, goblin."
"What?"
Before Geb could react, the elf suddenly tossed the bag into the air and shouted:
"Long live Chaos!"
The magic pouch containing thousands of gold coins spun and flew towards the bottomless underground river!
"my darling!"
The goblin's heart tightened, and instinctively, he grabbed with his wizard's hand and pulled back—
The opening of the magic pouch was not tied. A flash of golden light appeared, and glittering gold poured out in the air with a "whoosh," scattering along the pouch's trajectory to form a dazzling and expensive rainbow!
