Chapter 198 Loki's Purpose
Chapter 198 Loki's Purpose
Chapter 198 Loki's Purpose
After the dark witch fell, the controlled dwarf artisans stood frozen in place like puppets with their strings cut, their eyes blank and dazed.
"Cleanup complete, Captain. This operation resulted in the killing of eight dark sorcerers and the capture of three," Elisa reported to Eric, wiping the sweat from her brow.
Eric nodded, his gaze then sweeping over the mess on the ground and landing on the spherical metal device being manufactured in the center of the workshop.
"What the hell is this thing?" Captain Martin walked over, his brows furrowed, his rugged face filled with disgust.
Even though he didn't know much about magic machinery, he could instinctively sense the negative energy emanating from the device, and the more he looked at it, the more it bothered him.
He spat and said gruffly, "This thing looks weird, Eric. Let me finish it off with one [Explosive Flame] spell, lest something else happens!"
As he spoke, the wand in his hand glowed with a fiery red light.
"Wait, Martin!" Captain Eric's calm voice rang out, and he gestured to stop him.
"Currently, the structure of this thing is unknown, and its energy reaction is also very strange. I'm afraid that if I destroy it rashly, it might trigger an energy explosion or an unknown pollution leak. If that happens, the consequences will be unimaginable."
Upon hearing this, Martin, though somewhat impatient, suppressed his urge to act immediately and muttered, "Then what do you suggest we do? We can't just keep this thing around, can we?"
Eric did not answer. He cautiously stepped forward and carefully observed the structure of the instrument from a distance.
After confirming that there were no problems, he went closer to examine the energy transmission method and material composition of the object.
After a moment, Eric's furrowed brows relaxed slightly, and he nodded to Martin: "Based on my initial assessment, its energy core is missing. Although its internal structure is complex, no self-destruct mechanism has been found. It is determined that it can be destroyed, but care must be taken to control its power."
"Hey, leave it to me!" Martin grinned and drew his wand.
He waved his wand, and a dark red fireball, compressed to its maximum, roared out and struck precisely the side connection of the spherical instrument.
"boom!"
The Explosive Flame spell exploded, scattering scorching heat waves. The enormous instrument shuddered violently amidst the deafening roar, and the externally embedded pipes and crystals shattered and melted.
Immediately afterwards, a sickening metallic twisting sound came from inside the instrument. The entire spherical structure collapsed rapidly around the point of impact, eventually disintegrating into a pile of smoking scrap iron, with no further energy reaction.
"Done!" Martin clapped his hands, quite satisfied with his skills.
Just then, Eric's law enforcement badge vibrated slightly, signaling the arrival of Li Ang's communication: "Captain Eric, what's the situation at the underground workshop? If the situation is under control, please meet us immediately in the council chamber next to the throne room. We need to gather all the intelligence."
"Roger that, Li Ang. We've just finished cleaning up here, we'll be there right away."
Eric replied, then called to everyone, "Everyone, upon receiving Captain Leon's instructions, immediately proceed to the palace conference room."
The atmosphere inside the large martial arts arena was somewhat tense.
Celia slowly opened her eyes, a hint of weariness and helplessness flashing in her golden eyes that held the promise of starlight. She looked at Li Ang beside her and gently shook her head: "Loki's methods are ingenious. This clone's memories were completely shattered, like tearing a complete painting into powder and scattering it randomly. All I can capture are fragments of his own memories. He was merely a low-level member of the 'gods' chosen by Loki, and—a few scattered fragments of words that left the deepest impression on him when Loki was controlling him."
She paused, then said clearly, "Open the door—and the Yinming Mountains."
"Open the door—Yinming Mountains—" Li Ang repeated these two keywords in a low voice, his brows furrowed.
The information is too scarce, and where exactly is the Yinming Mountain Range? It's simply impossible to know where to begin.
Just then, a royal guard strode into the hall and bowed to Sandramea, who was seated in the main seat, to report: "Your Majesty, former King Frostheart Maxwell has awakened and is in a relatively stable emotional state."
Maya looked at Li Ang, her emerald green eyes asking for his opinion.
Li Ang nodded and said in a deep voice, "Your Majesty, may I borrow a spacious conference room? I want to gather all the key personnel so we can have a meeting and consolidate all the existing clues."
"Of course," Maya immediately agreed, then added, "How about we go to the council chamber next to the throne room? It's spacious enough."
Li Ang nodded, then instructed the guard: "Invite Her Majesty Frostheart to the council chamber. Also, please have Gelong—the former regent—come along."
He then contacted Eric through the badge.
The guard obeyed and left. He knew that this human was a trusted minister of His Majesty and dared not be negligent in the slightest.
Li Ang and his team members were the first to arrive at the luxuriously decorated council hall to wait.
Shortly after, Frostheart Maxwell entered, accompanied by two guards.
The old king was in very good spirits, and his eyes had regained their clarity, but his brows were filled with guilt and dejection.
He saw Li Ang, his lips moved slightly, and he spoke in a hoarse voice: "You—are the envoy of the Li Ang Alliance—?"
Li Ang looked down at Shuang Xin, nodded, and said, "It's me."
A look of despair appeared on Shuangxin's face.
"It was I who betrayed the ancient covenant. All the blame lies with me, not with my brother Gronn, nor with the people of Ironforge—if I must atone with my death, I have no complaints. I only ask—I only ask to quell the Alliance's wrath—"
Li Ang looked at the former king and calmly shook his head: "Your Majesty Frostheart, if I wanted to take your life, I wouldn't have used the [Panacea] to pull you back from the clutches of death."
"A panacea?!" Shuangxin looked up suddenly, his eyes filled with disbelief. Of course, he knew what that legendary divine medicine meant.
At this moment, Maya also hurried in. Hearing Li Ang's words, she quickly went to her father's side, her tone complex yet firm: "Father, it was indeed Li Ang who saved you with the incomparably precious elixir. So please—please put aside those futile insistences and tell us everything you know, to help us stop Loki. This is the only way to make amends."
Shuangxin looked at her daughter, then at Li Ang: "I—I understand—I will cooperate fully—"
The second to arrive was Grom Maxwell, who had lost the regent's finery and scepter and was only wearing a simple cotton robe.
His single eye no longer held its former sharpness and coldness, only a deep weariness and a sense of relief as if a heavy burden had been lifted.
