Chapter 48. Is this how he gets knighted?
Chapter 48. Is this how he gets knighted?
Li Ang subconsciously looked down and saw the source of the sound: a petite figure that only reached his waist.
Li Ang's sleep-deprived brain went blank for a moment. He stared at the somewhat familiar face and began to try to recall.
Dwarf…pink hair…bad temper…name? He only remembered that it seemed to be a long string of gibberish syllables, but he couldn’t remember exactly what it was. It seemed to have something like “Shan” in it.
Just as he was trying to recall the other person's ridiculously long name, the short, pink-haired man had already grown impatient.
She slipped into the doorway through the gap between Li Ang's body, who was still blocking the doorway, as if she were returning to her own home.
After entering the room, without waiting for Li Ang to say anything, she looked around the room and finally chose the chair that Li Ang was holding.
With her small feet clad in brown leather boots, she skillfully placed them on the crossbeam beneath the chair, then effortlessly pushed off the chair surface with her arms, and very lightly leaped onto the chair.
The whole process was incredibly smooth, clearly indicating that this wasn't the first time he'd done something like this.
She sat upright in a chair that was too big for her size, her short legs dangling in the air, unable to even reach the ground.
Even so, she still tried to straighten her back and slightly raise her chin, attempting to create a sense of superior authority.
Li Ang closed the door, turned around helplessly, and looked at the little one who had inexplicably barged into his room and taken over the room. He was still a little confused.
He rubbed his temples, trying to shake off the sleepiness and confusion: "You...?"
He had barely uttered a single word when the girl interrupted him.
She took a deep breath and announced in her deliberately raised voice:
"Human, in light of your rude yet somewhat quick-witted behavior in the library last time, and... well... your rather pleasing face, I, Sandramea Maxwell, Princess of Ironforge, have decided to bestow upon you the highest honor!"
She paused, her emerald eyes fixed on Li Ang, as if expecting him to show a shocked or ecstatic expression.
After waiting a while and seeing that Li Ang had no expression, she was not disappointed, but continued:
"From this moment on, you are my knight. So now, immediately, kneel down on one knee, kiss my ring, and complete this sacred investiture ceremony."
She haughtily extended a small, fair hand to Li Ang, her slender finger adorned with an exquisitely crafted ring inlaid with a huge sapphire.
However, Li Ang only had one thought in his mind at this moment: This person... probably has some serious illness, right?
Li Ang ignored the girl's award ceremony, yawned, and glanced at the clock on the table. Damn it, it's not even six o'clock yet.
"Sit wherever you like, I'm too lazy to argue with you."
Li Ang mumbled something indistinctly, walked straight to the bedside, and lay down fully clothed.
He stayed up too late writing yesterday, and even with the [Speed-Up Pocket Watch], he's incredibly sleepy now.
Sandra Meya clearly hadn't expected this reaction. The awe and joy she had anticipated didn't materialize; instead, she was completely ignored.
She puffed out her cheeks, making her already somewhat round face appear even rounder.
Her bright green eyes widened as she stared at the bird's nest-like head on the bed, which seemed about to fall asleep at any moment. A feeling of being slighted and annoyed welled up inside her.
"Hey, you rude commoner! Don't you want to hear about the great deeds of the ten knights under Princess Maxwell's command?" Although she subconsciously raised her voice, she didn't seem to have much of an imposing presence.
Li Ang turned over, his back to her.
The girl grew even more anxious. She jumped off the chair, scurried to the bedside, and began to mutter into Li Ang's back:
"My ten knights are all incredibly brave, almost legendary. They will fight alongside me, starting from the frost dragon that has roamed the northern ice plains for thousands of years..."
Li Ang pulled the blanket up higher and covered his head.
"In the end, we will defeat the evil gods, protect the peace of the continent together, and then..."
Although Li Ang covered his head with the blanket, the incessant chatter still kept getting into his ears.
Li Ang finally couldn't take it anymore, abruptly threw off the covers and sat up, looking helplessly at the still-talking pink-haired little guy:
"Alright, alright, Your Highness, your knights are very skilled. So, where are they now? Ironforge? Or are they waiting for you outside the tower?"
Seeing that Leon had finally paid attention to her, Sandramea proudly raised her chin and sat back down in her chair: "Not yet, but you'll be the first one after you join."
Li Ang was speechless. After all that, all that endless adventure story was just this little girl's imagination?
I really don't know what she's so proud of... Could it be that she has developed hysteria at such a young age...?
Seeing Li Ang's "Are you alright?" expression, Sandra Meya looked as if she had been humiliated, her face darkening, and she let out a cold snort.
Then, seemingly casually, she pulled a shiny gold coin from her pocket.
"Here you go." She handed the gold coins to Li Ang, her face full of pride. "This is your reward, loyal knight. Serve me well from now on, and you'll be rewarded handsomely."
The gold coin gleamed alluringly in the morning sunlight, instantly dispelling Li Ang's drowsiness.
He blinked, looking at the shiny gold coin.
Then, looking at the young, wealthy woman who was immersed in her own world, his mindset suddenly changed.
It doesn't seem too annoying?
He coughed lightly, his face instantly switching to a perfectly respectful expression. He reached out his hand, but did not directly take the gold coins.
With a serious expression, Li Ang took the hand from Sandra Meya that was handing over the gold coin, lowered his head, and gently kissed the ring.
"Thank you for your generosity, Your Highness." Li Ang raised his head, his tone becoming solemn. "It is my greatest honor to serve the noble princess."
Sandramea was very satisfied with Li Ang's performance at this moment, and a bright smile appeared on her round face, as if she had really completed a investiture ceremony.
Li Ang readily accepted the heavy gold coin. The weight of the coin made him very happy; one gold coin was equivalent to one hundred silver coins. He was now rich.
"Very good!" Sandramea withdrew her hand, straightened her chest, and issued her first task. "I command you, in two hours, to follow me out of the tower and head to the nearby Whispering Forest."
Li Ang put the gold coins back into his pocket and nodded. "As you wish, Your Highness."
After seeing off the wealthy and powerful dwarf princess, Li Ang returned to his dormitory and began to wash up.
"Ironforge...Sandramea Maxwell..."
He silently repeated the name in his mind while recalling the destination information she had mentioned.
Whispering Forest, my tutor mentioned that place during class.
The forest is located about fifty kilometers northwest of the Wizard's Tower. Because it is close to the tower and is regularly cleaned by the tower's enforcement team, there are no powerful monsters in it.
