Chapter 52 Stone Puppet
Chapter 52 Stone Puppet
"Watch out for their whipping and spore gas!" Sandra Mea shouted a warning, but her steps didn't falter as she rushed to the first walking mushroom.
The walking mushroom, which had been hit by Leon's [Gentle Breeze] spell, was seriously injured. Upon seeing someone in front of it, a hardened tentacle, accompanied by the sound of wind breaking, lashed out fiercely at Sandramea.
Without dodging or avoiding, her petite body unleashed a power disproportionate to her size, and her left arm thrust forward sharply.
"clang."
The tentacles lashed against the hard, kite-shaped shield, producing a crisp, metallic clang. The immense impact slightly halted Sandramea's charge, but her footing was extremely stable, and she withstood the blow.
Almost at the same time, another walking mushroom silently approached from the side, its tentacles like venomous snakes emerging from their holes, aiming straight for Sandramea's unprotected waist.
Li Ang's eyes sharpened, and he pointed his wand again.
Another [Gentle Breeze] spell was cast, this time targeting the base of the attacking tentacle. The compressed air cannon struck first, hitting the target precisely.
"Click"
With a soft crack, the arm snapped off, spurting out a thick, yellow liquid. The walking mushroom trembled violently without a sound, its attack interrupted.
Sandra Mea seized the opportunity, and the warhammer that had been trailing behind her suddenly swung up with the momentum of the charge, drawing a silver arc and smashing solidly into the stem of the walking mushroom in front of her.
"Bang."
The heavy thud sent shivers down one's spine. The stem of the walking mushroom instantly caved in, splattering yellow juice and shattered flesh everywhere. The entire mushroom jerked backward, and the patterns on its cap dimmed slightly.
Li Ang would not let this opportunity pass by. His third [Gentle Breeze] spell was almost seamlessly followed, striking the same spot on the damaged fungal stem once again.
This time, the already severely damaged stem could no longer withstand the wind pressure and was pierced through. The walking mushroom convulsed violently twice, then collapsed to the ground and never moved again.
At the same time, the walking mushroom whose arm had been broken by Li Ang seemed to be completely enraged. The patterns on its cap suddenly lit up, and then the cap opened slightly, spewing out a cloud of gray-green spore smoke that quickly spread in all directions.
"It's spore gas, hold your breath!" Sandramea hurriedly retreated several steps, holding her shield in front of her to try and stop the spores from getting closer.
Li Ang reacted extremely quickly, waving his wand rapidly, no longer focusing on a single point, but guiding the airflow to disperse.
[Gentle Breeze] Targeted Dispel!
The gray-green mist was instantly dispelled and disappeared into the forest. Upon seeing this, Sandramea immediately emerged from behind her shield, wielding her hammer with both hands, and charged forward swiftly. The warhammer, carrying all her anger and power, slammed down fiercely.
"Shatter for this princess!"
"boom"
After a loud bang, the second walking mushroom followed in its companion's footsteps, its cap smashed to pieces.
The two worked together more and more seamlessly, and by repeating the same method, they quickly took care of the remaining three walking mushrooms one by one.
The depression returned to silence, leaving only the remains of five walking mushrooms.
"Hmph, utterly pathetic." Sandramea slammed her warhammer into the ground, slightly panting, her face radiating the pride of victory.
After resting for a while, she bent down to collect the mushroom spores she needed.
Li Ang also relaxed his guard slightly, his gaze sweeping over the mushroom remains, pondering which parts might still have other value.
Just then.
"Boom!"
Without warning, the ground beneath my feet began to shake violently, then churned and the surrounding trees rustled, as if something enormous was about to burst forth from the earth.
"What's going on?" Sandra Mea suddenly stood up straight, looking warily at the source of the tremor.
The next moment, the ground not far in front of them suddenly split open, and a huge monster made of grayish-white rock slowly crawled up from the ground.
It was over six meters tall, with limbs as thick as pillars, its back covered with stone spikes, and two blood-red holes on its head staring at the two people.
"Stone...stone golem?" Sandramea's face turned deathly pale instantly, her voice trembling with shock.
"A level 2 monster? How is that possible? How could such a monster appear in Whispering Woods? It's only been two months since the enforcement team last cleared it out."
Her reaction was lightning fast; she grabbed the warhammer and shouted urgently to Li Ang, "Li Ang, run! Run! We are no match for it!"
Level 2 magical beasts are threats that require a formal wizard to defeat; they are definitely not a situation that a novice wizard and an apprentice can handle.
However, an unexpected change occurred. A red light flashed on the stone golem, and it rushed over at an extremely fast speed, cutting off the two's retreat.
Its enormous body blocked their path like a mountain, its hollow eye sockets glowing red as it locked onto the two of them.
"Damn it!" Sandramea spat, knowing that escape was hopeless, which only fueled the ferocity in her dwarven bloodline.
She raised her shield and warhammer again, her eyes resolute:
"Li Angqing, it seems we have no choice but to fight! Aim for its joints and eyes."
Facing a formidable foe, Li Ang became even calmer. He gripped his wand tightly, his mental energy gathering and ready to be unleashed, searching for an opportunity.
The stone golem launched its attack. The sharp stone spikes on its back writhed and then shot out like arrows from a powerful crossbow, whistling through the air as they struck the two men.
Seeing this, Sandramea quickly rushed to Leon's side and then raised the kite-shaped shield in front of her.
Stone spikes rained down on Sandramea's shield, the immense impact numbing her arm. Taking advantage of the moment, Leon unleashed a fully charged [Gentle Breeze] spell.
The solid wind hammer whistled and pounded on the stone golem's knees, but the effect was minimal. The stone golem's defense was far beyond imagination, and the wind hammer could only leave some shallow white pits and cracks on its hard stone shell.
After the stone golem finished firing a round of stone spikes on its back, it wriggled, trying to grow new stone spikes.
"It's out of thorns, now's the chance." Sandra Mea seized the opportunity and charged again, trying to get close enough to attack the stone golem's leg joints.
Li Ang also unleashed his full power, unleashing wave after wave of [Gentle Breeze] spells, but they failed to deal any effective damage.
When Sandramea's warhammer struck, it only sent a few pebbles flying, but the impact made her own hands ache.
The stone golem raised its enormous foot and stomped down on Sandramea. She rolled backward in a panic to avoid it, leaving a deep crater in the ground where she had been standing.
Immediately afterwards, the stone golem's arm swept down like a battering ram, and Sandramea only had time to raise her shield to her side.
"clang!"
With a deafening crash, she and her shield were sent flying backward, crashing heavily into a large tree before sliding down.
She felt a sweet taste in her throat and spat out a mouthful of blood. To make matters worse, a small stone spike that had been knocked away earlier had now deeply embedded itself in her unarmored thigh, and blood instantly stained her silver armor and the ground.
