Chapter 25 The Girl's Flirting
Chapter 25 The Girl's Flirting
Bloodshed and madness spread like an uncontrollable disease throughout the camp.
The once unarmed criminals acquired weapons and began to take revenge on their bullies, while the bullies fought back with all their might. Gunfire has never stopped since the start of the battle.
But Simon didn't immediately join the fight. Carrying a harpoon, he avoided the sinners' gaze and quietly sneaked into Theodore's cabin.
It's less of a wooden house and more of a shed made of several large wooden planks.
He had arranged with Klein beforehand that after the infiltration operation, he would not leave the camp immediately to join Klein and his men in a pincer attack on Theodore's squad. Instead, he would search Theodore's cabin for the indulgences he had painstakingly collected and steal his ill-gotten gains.
Their goal was to seize the indulgences; none of them wanted to see Theodore's "legacy" taken by other sinners after a fierce battle.
Because of the riot, the people who were originally responsible for guarding the cabin had to leave, and Simon broke the lock and easily entered the cabin.
Canned food, red wine, cigarettes—while many survivors are barely surviving on morsels, this guy is living a very fulfilling life.
Simon searched the cabin thoroughly but couldn't find any indulgences.
Theodore was a shrewd fellow despite his rough exterior; he seemed crazy, but deep down he possessed a cold caution.
This can be seen from the fact that he kept Professor Loris imprisoned by his side and made him work for him; such a person would certainly not display indulgences in a prominent position.
He suddenly noticed the bed made of two planks and a piece of animal hide, with obvious plow marks on the ground. Could it be...?
He lifted the wooden plank, and sure enough, a cellar appeared before his eyes...
The cellar wasn't very deep, but it was full of good stuff: a sturdy steel plate, probably salvaged from a crashed airship, half a box of metal parts, all scavenged from various parts of the first floor, and a whole sack of indulgences in addition to all sorts of rare treasures.
A rough count revealed that there were more than fifty indulgences among them.
Besides that, there's also a... birdcage in the cellar?
"Why are there birdcages?"
A sudden voice answered his question:
"When the empire first entered the abyss..."

The moment the soft, sweet voice appeared, Simon instantly turned around and almost instinctively pulled the trigger, sending a steel crossbow bolt straight into the man's head.
Looking in the direction of the sound, he was shocked to see a familiar figure; the person in front of him was none other than the heretical girl!
The crossbow bolt struck him squarely in the forehead, shattering his skull and causing blood to gush out. Her beautiful eyes gradually lost their focus.
however……
In just a moment, she regained her senses, her face showing helplessness and frustration. She even reached out and grabbed the crossbow bolt on her head.
"When the Empire first entered the Abyss, fearing there might be deadly poison gas inside, they brought along a few caged birds to test if there was any poison in the air..." She continued speaking casually, gripping the end of the steel crossbow bolt with her hand and pulling it out with a sudden burst of strength.
The instant she pulled out the crossbow bolt, she gently touched the wound with her fair hand, and the bloody hole left by the steel crossbow bolt disappeared without a trace.
What terrifying regenerative abilities!
She stuck out her pink tongue and licked the warm blood that belonged to her on the steel crossbow bolt, her smiling eyes staring directly at Simon, who was holding a harpoon.
"Long time no see, little mouse."
"What are you doing here? Where's that bone spur killer?"
"Are you more interested in that guy Faldor than me? Hmm, looks like my charm isn't up to par." The girl smiled. "It's just me and me here."
"Then what are you doing here?" Simon didn't believe her and remained wary of his surroundings.
"Of course it's for you!"
The girl took a few steps forward, her eyes gleaming with an unusual light.
"I love things of chaos..." she began. "I left the third level and came here to escape my boring and tedious life and to pursue the ultimate things of chaos. After a long journey, I thought I would return empty-handed, but I didn't expect to meet you."
What is this guy talking about? Simon frowned.
The girl completely ignored the confused look on his face and continued her narration with rapt attention and deep affection:
"You are different from other sinners. They are just pretending to be crazy, using madness to cover up their inner vulnerability. But you... you pretend to be calm, but deep down you are a complete madman! Calmness is just your shackle. In reality, you are crazier than anyone else."
Her exquisite face was distorted by that sinister smile...
"You're just a weak and lowly mouse, yet you dare to boast about running towards freedom. Ah, you are the chaotic thing I've been dreaming of. I really want to see your end, to see how far you can climb when your life ends, and what kind of light will shine in your eyes."
Simon instantly became alert; this meant the girl in front of him had eavesdropped on his conversation with his companion! To be precise, she had been watching, reading their lips and then reading their words.
What exactly is this crazy woman up to? Will she interfere with his and Klein's plans?
"I don't understand what you're talking about. Could you explain it to me...?"
After much deliberation, he decided to first subdue the girl in front of him.
But the girl seemed to have seen through his thoughts.
"It's a pity that our relationship may have to end here."
As she spoke, she suddenly ran to a corner of the cellar, picked up an inconspicuous wooden bucket, and then immediately ran outside.
"Hey, stop right there!"
The harpoon was swung out, but unfortunately it was an inch too short.
The heretical girl was much faster than he had imagined. Carrying the wooden bucket, she skipped and hopped away from the cellar in the blink of an eye and ran out of Theodore's cabin.
The bloody battle, the sinners fighting like wild beasts, all paused for a moment because of that beautiful figure.
"Hello everyone, how about a race on this beautiful day?" The heretical girl smiled as she looked at the sinners, showing them the wooden bucket in her hand.
"The reward for winning the competition is... a whole bucket of meat as evidence of guilt."
A pale hand picked up a piece of blood-stained flesh, evidence of guilt, from the bucket and threw it on the ground, no less than displaying a fresh piece of meat in front of wild beasts.
A whole barrel of flesh, evidence of guilt! The precious objects stimulated the nerves of the criminals.
"Alright, let the competition begin."
The girl laughed and ran out of the camp. The rest of the sinners chased after her without hesitation. Whether they were Theodore's loyal dogs or rebels against Theodore, they all had their eyes on the barrel full of evidence of sin. It meant wealth, it meant their future!
Simon watched the sinners leave, his mind racing.
What exactly is that woman's purpose?
Another phrase popped into my mind: offspring of the abyss!
Whatever she does, the outcome will inevitably be related to that mysterious abyssal offspring.
Simon turned his head to look in another direction. Strangely, the other battlefield was quiet, without a single gunshot.
Holding a harpoon, he chased after the girl.
There was still plenty of time; he needed to figure out what tricks that woman was up to.
