Chapter 32 Is he really human?
As he continued running, Klein gradually felt his strength failing, his breathing became more rapid, and his pace slowed down.
He glanced briefly at Badal beside him; it was clear he was also starting to tire, sweat trickling down his bald head.
But Simon, who was five or six body lengths behind him, was still moving at full speed. He seemed to be deliberately slowing down so that he and Badal could catch up with him.
"Is that guy really human?" Klein muttered to himself, gritting his teeth as he barely managed to catch up with Simon.
A gust of wind howled past, bringing with it a dangerous smell...
Simon's expression was stern: "Can you smell that odor?"
"The taste?" Klein shook his head.
After running for a while, he belatedly smelled the scent.
The familiar stench of decay... Klein gritted his teeth in anger. That night, Theodore and his men had poured the barrel of liquid that attracted abyssal creatures into their camp, forcing them to abandon it. Anthony was brutally murdered by a monster that looked like a bat.
It was clear that Theodore had resorted to that underhanded tactic again, this time to prevent them from continuing their pursuit.
Several swaying, gaunt figures suddenly emerged from the white mist! Judging from their outlines, they were all fungal corpses, kneeling on the ground, greedily licking the liquid on the ground.
A large number of fungal corpses gathered, and more were on their way. Witnessing this scene, Simon knew he had to make a decision.
We can't let Theodore escape again. If we let him go this time, he might just disappear with a large amount of supplies.
After a brief moment of thought, Simon made his choice.
"I'll hold Theodore and the others off; you guys can come and support me later."
"What nonsense are you talking about?" Even with his burning desire for revenge, Klein was shocked by Simon's words. "Didn't you see this huge mass of fungal corpses?"
Before he could finish speaking, Simon pulled the trigger, and an explosive bolt shot down to the feet of the fungal zombies.
boom--
The sudden explosion tore them to pieces, and all the surrounding fungal zombies were affected. Only a few fungal zombies that retained the memory of the explosives chose to lie down on the ground.
But the next moment, a sharp harpoon came swinging down!
His movements were incredibly fast! Concise and efficient, as if he had practiced countless times. The sharp blade skillfully cut into the parts that supported their bodies—the shinbones, Achilles tendons—and some strikes went directly to the back of the fungal corpses' necks, instantly rendering a large number of fungal corpses unable to fight.
The battle ended in an instant. The fungal zombies all fell to the ground with cries of agony, crawling helplessly on the ground, unable to stop their advance.
Even while wielding the harpoon, Simon did not slow down. After dealing with the fungal corpse, he immediately reloaded the harpoon and then suddenly accelerated!
After being blessed, my heart started working like an engine, pumping blood rapidly to provide energy. My pace quickened, and the scenery on both sides of my vision rushed past.
At first, Klein could see Simon's whole body, but in the end, he could only barely see a small back view.
His breathing was steady, and he felt no fatigue whatsoever. He only felt a surge of excitement, a longing for battle.
"It's just ahead, hey, watch out!" Brienne suddenly warned from inside the birdcage.
His keen senses picked up new information; he heard a curse, followed by a sizzling sound!
A wooden-handled grenade was flying towards him!
At the crucial moment, Simon suddenly stopped, his boots dragging a plow mark on the muddy ground. He gripped the harpoon tightly, held it down with both hands, and then swung it with force!
Bang—
The grenade struck the harpoon's fork squarely, and with Simon's powerful swing, it flew off in the opposite direction like a baseball. The person who threw the grenade never expected to see such a sight; he simply stood there, frozen in place, letting the explosion and the spreading debris engulf him.
"Great shot!" Brienne laughed as she gave her evaluation.
"Are you even human...?"
The familiar voice rang out again, and the thin, sinister man reappeared before Simon.
Theodore leaned against a large tree, his left hand covering his severed arm. His face was deathly pale, his lips were trembling, but a sickly smile still lingered on his lips.
Where were his men? How could this despicable fellow just appear in front of him like this? Simon instinctively felt something was wrong.
A soft, crisp sound reached his ears from behind a rock not far away.
What was he up to? Simon turned his crossbow around, about to fire an explosive bolt, when he saw two of Theodore's men suddenly emerge from behind the rocks.
click-
With a few crisp sounds of bullets colliding, followed by the click of the tripod being fixed in place, Simon was greeted by a medium machine gun! It had an iron-gray body, a thick barrel, and a belt of ammunition hanging down from the right side of the gun, dragging on the ground. The golden bullets reflected the morning light.
A medium machine gun? Where did he get that thing?
In a flash, Theodore's men pulled the trigger.
Orange flames spurted from the muzzle, spent cartridges flew out of the ejection port, clattering to the ground, and a dense barrage of bullets pressed down on Simon!
The bullet grazed his shoulder, and warm blood flowed from the wound.
Although Simon managed to take cover behind a large tree, bullets kept coming. He realized that the tree behind him was not a good cover, and the bullets riddled it with holes in the blink of an eye. He had to continue rolling and dodging, using his agile movements to escape into the blind spot of the machine gun fire in the forest.
"Die! Die! Hahahaha!" The bursts of gunfire were interspersed with Theodore's maniacal laughter.
He finally managed to escape to a blind spot, but another bullet hit him in the back. Two enemies were lying in ambush there, firing their pistols at him!
Despite the excruciating pain in his back, Simon calmly and collectedly defended himself against the enemy...
With the harpoon pointed forward, the two enemies instinctively retreated, dodging the impending explosive crossbow bolt, but this was just a feint.
Simon thrust the harpoon forward like a spear, catching the enemy off guard and stabbing him in the abdomen, but the enemy also managed to trap the harpoon in his abdomen.
The two were locked in a struggle. The enemy in front of him was burly and about the same height as Badar, but he was shocked to find that his strength was no match for the thin Simon. Even though he used all his strength, he could only let the sharp blade penetrate deeper and deeper, piercing through his body!
bass--
He smoothly drew the harpoon, and a gunshot rang out from his right, but he missed. His many battles had instilled a deep fear in his enemies. Even at close range, his trembling hand could not grip the pistol tightly, and none of the three bullets hit Simon's body.
He stepped forward and hurled the harpoon. The man felt his lower body go numb instantly, and his upper body slid down in a bizarre manner, with blood gushing out like a fountain.
At the same time, Simon's keen hearing caught the clanging sound of the ammunition belt, indicating that the medium machine gun had been reloaded.
This is destined to be a tough battle.
